Cooking classes at The Girl Can Cook Studio are different...let's just start with that.
When we say "hands-on", we mean "hands-on" as in you are doing ALL of the cooking (with very few exceptions). I haven't figured out how to grill at the work stations yet but as soon as I do then it will be ALL.
Participants do not work from recipes. I think people get caught up in instructions and exactness and lose the inherent fun of cooking something yourself. So I guide them through the cooking process. They prepare their "mise en place" where they cut everything up and arrange things for the actual cooking. I, then, take them step-by-step through the entire process. Everyone gets the actual recipe at the end of class so no, I don't make them remember everything they did. But since they physically DO everything in the recipe, they tend to remember it when their memories are refreshed by the recipe. The best thing someone (who comes to a class) can tell me is: I made the (fill in the blank) at home and it was great!
Now, that makes my day!
For those of you who haven't been to a class (Why not? is the only question.), here is a pictorial from a recent Date Night: Real Mexican. They made Pork Chile Verde, Shrimp in Buttery Hot Sauce, Pico de Gallo and Pineapple Salsa.
